Boys and volunteer
coaches at the Fun Team Scramble Competition
October
Holiday Fun Team Scramble at North Berwick
Thirty-six
boys and 13 girls from across East Lothian took part in last
week’s Fun Team Scramble Competition at North Berwick’s
Children’s course.
The boys’ competition on Tuesday, for
a mixture of clubs and range of ages, was booked to capacity
and the players returned some fantastic scores. The winners
were Jack Fish (North Berwick), Alistair Armet (Haddington)
Lewis Tulloch (clubgolf East Lothian) and Coll Donaldson (North
Berwick) who shot a team score of a one over par 28.
The 13 girls who took part in Wednesday’s
Girls Team Scramble all received a pink clubgolf “Girls
in Golf” t-shirt. “Girls in Golf” is
clubgolf’s recently launched initiative aimed at encouraging
girls to take up golf and develop in the sport.
Most of the Team Scramble competitors have
completed blocks of clubgolf coaching at clubs across East
Lothian this year. clubgolf coaching starts in
school with the modified golf game, firstclubgolf. Children
that enjoy the experience can chose to continue their coaching
at a local club where they are taught by clubgolf volunteer
coaches.
Some of these children have now completed
three years of the clubgolf player development pathway and
have reached an encouraging standard of play.
The range between nine and 13 years old and
attend coaching at North Berwick, The Glen, Tantallon, Gullane,
Craigielaw, Dunbar, Musselburgh Old, Haddington Golf Clubs
and East Lothian Council led facilities.
The competitions gave the children, coaches
and parents a great opportunity to meet and play with fellow
golfers from across East Lothian and it is hoped that as with
the Easter Fun Scramble it will now become an annual event.
Organisers would
like to thank all the coaches and parents who volunteered their
time and enthusiasm to accompany the children round the course. Thanks
also to North Berwick Golf Club for kindly giving use of their
fabulous Children’s Golf Course. The course is
ideal for this age group and is available for any child to
play on a pay to play basis.
