clubgolfer’s hole in one
Ten year old Josh Dunbar became
the second clubgolf student in less than 10 days to shoot
a hole in one this week.
Competing
in the second round of Insch Golf Club’s Junior Club
Championship on Wednesday night, the 22 handicapper drove straight
into the hole on the 115 yard 17th hole with his five iron.
“He
was playing with his friend David Clarke and punched a five
iron; it bounced and rolled into the hole,” said Josh’s
father, John Dunbar, the Club’s Junior Convenor and clubgolf
volunteer coach.
“It
was seen by the club’s ranger and after that Josh and
David were seen jumping about. He was really pleased
and he lost all cool after that, finishing with a seven on
the eighteenth.”
Josh
began his golf career two years ago on the Club’s Stage
1 clubgolf course. Last season he started playing in
handicap events, becoming the Club’s under 13 junior
champion.
As
part of the clubgolf course, Josh learnt all about rules and
etiquette. This week he also discovered more about the
important traditions surrounding the game.
“If
you get a hole in one the tradition is you buy everybody a
drink,” said his father, who has shot no less than three
hole in ones on par 4 holes.
“So
we bought all 23 juniors playing a juice when they came in...of
course Dad ended up paying and it was £38 for the round. It
would have been cheaper to put a bottle of whisky on the bar.”
