Grampian
coaches out in force for ProAM
An outstanding turnout of Grampian clubgolf
volunteer coaches added a distinctive Teuchter flavour to the
Scottish Young Professionals Championships clubgolf ProAm,
hosted by Clackmannanshire’s Muckhart Golf Club this
week.
Of
the 80 plus clubgolf volunteer coaches involved in the sportscotland-backed
event, no less than 40 came from Grampian.
The
north easterners’ keenness to make the long journey south – and
some had ventured from as far afield as Forres – was
matched by their skill of the course. Out of 41 teams
competing, a men’s team from Craibstone GC finished second
overall. The only all-lady team in the event, from Kemnay
Golf Club, finished fifth.
“I’ve
never played a ProAm before and it was really enjoyable, well
organised and a great course,” said Yvonne Moir, one
of the Kemnay team members who, during the day, won the nearest
the ladies nearest the pin competition with a birdie on the
tenth hole.
Miss
Moir was accompanied by fellow club members, Caroline Gordon
and Linda Paterson together with Bothwell Castle pro, Steven
Taylor.
Kemnay
Golf Club have been on board with clubgolf for almost three
years and have amassed no less than 17 volunteer coaches to
teach their local children. Over 200 volunteer clubgolf
coaches are qualified and active in Grampian. More than
1,100 clubgolf volunteer coaches are working in clubs across
Scotland.
