New
Junior Golf Handicap Open attracts 74 children
Annandale & Eskdale
Sports & Leisure Trust as part of their initiative to develop
new sporting events held their inaugural Junior Novice Golf
Handicap Open, sponsored by Magnox North at Hoddom Golf Club
last Saturday.
The
event is based on the flag golf format which gives boys and
girls aged 5-12 year olds a way to progress from coaching programmes
into competitive golf, or to try competitive golf for the first
time. The children started at the 1st hole and had 36 shots
to get through as many holes as possible before placing their
flag where their 36th shot finished.
The
new competition attracted 74 entries including 9 girls in
various boys and girls categories
and turned out to be a very enjoyable day. All children excelled
in this new event which concluded with the following results:

Calum
Graham, Sports Development Officer for the Leisure Trust said: ”I
would like to thank Magnox North, Hoddom & Kinmount Estate,
Ann Lang from clubgolf, Margaret Mannall and all the helpers
from Powfoot Golf Club as without their support this event
would not have been possible. Hopefully this event will
encourage more children to take up the sport and next year
attract a larger entry with more girls as well as boys participating.”
