Initial Coach Licensing
All coaches in the clubgolf programme who successfully complete their Level 1 Certificate in Golf Coaching will receive a letter from the PGA Membership department inviting them to become a licensed coach. There are three pre-requisites to becoming a licensed coach:
- Attainment of the Level 1 Certificate in Golf Coaching
- Attendance at the Child Protection Course “Safeguarding and Protecting Children”
- A satisfactory enhanced disclosure check within the past 12 months
Evidence of each of these must be presented, and a passport sized photograph supplied, before the PGA will issue a golf coaching licence.
clubgolf is committed to the deployment of licensed coaches in all of our programmes and the cost of an initial three year golf coaching license is included in the fee paid for attending the Level 1 course.
How Do I Renew My Coaching Licence?
When your licence is close to expiry, the PGA Membership department will write to you advising details of what you need to do to relicense. This will include:
- completing and submitting a licence form
(download the Level 1 & Level 2 licence forms on the right hand column on this page).
- presenting evidence of a satisfactory enhanced disclosure check within the past 12 months
If your address, or any of your personal details, has changed you will be asked to provide an update.
A licence renewal fee of £39 is payable and must be received before the PGA will issue a golf coaching licence. Payment can be made by cheque payable to “PGA Ltd” or by credit card using the form attached here.
Should your licence expire and (for whatever reason) you do not receive correspondence from the PGA, it remains your responsibility to ensure you renew your licence. You should contact the Membership / Coach Licence Administrator at the PGA on 01675 470333.
How long is my Coaching Licence valid?
Your golf coaching licence will remain valid for a period of three years. The licence expiry date is shown clearly on the front of your licence card.
What if I Don’t Have a Coaching Licence?
Coaches who have qualified but are not yet licensed should submit evidence of successfully passing the Level 1 Certificate in Golf Coaching to the PGA Membership Department. They will then receive a letter specifying the documentation they must submit in order to become licensed.
What evidence must I produce to show I have a satisfactory enhanced disclosure check?
If you submit your disclosure check via the Scottish Golf Child & Adult Protection service you will receive a letter from the Scottish Golf Child & Adult Protection Officer by return. In the event your disclosure check is satisfactory, this letter will confirm the fact, and will be accepted by the PGA as suitable evidence of a satisfactory disclosure check.
If you are in any doubt about the disclosure process, or how to request an enhanced disclosure check, contact your club’s Child Protection Officer or visit our Child Protection page.
Do I need to submit a new photograph ?
The PGA require an up to date passport sized photograph every six years. If you have not provided a photograph for that period, you should submit a new one with your relicensing papers.
If you have any questions about the licensing process, or are unsure what documentation you need to submit, please contact:
