Whinhill youngsters
enjoy golf trips
Members of the Whinhill Golf
Club ‘Mini-Junior’ Section recently enjoyed
two action-packed days out.
The first outing of the season was
a trip to the Golf Practice Facility at the Inverclyde
National Sport Centre at Largs. The facility is one of
the best golfing facilities in Scotland and was of terrific
help to the youngsters as many of them are in the middle
of their clubgolf Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses.
A total of 33 ‘Mini-Juniors’ practised their
driving, iron-play, chipping, putting and bunker play.
Every ‘Mini-Junior’ was given a medal and
a certificate for completing the coaching tasks. Congratulations
go to all the “Mini-Juniors” who took part
on the day.
The second trip of the season was a trip to the Practice
Day of the European Tour’s ‘Barclay’s
Scottish Open’ competition held at Loch Lomond
Golf Club. The competition is one of the biggest on the
European Tour and attracts the world’s finest golfers.
‘Mini-Juniors’ got the opportunity to walk
around the course, watch some golf, take part in the
activities in the tented village and most importantly
obtain some autographs from their heroes.
Defending champion Gregory Havret, England’s Lee
Westwood, Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, ‘2005
US Open Champion’ Michael Campbell and rising Scottish
star Lloyd Saltman, to name just a few, were terrific
with the youngsters and made their day by taking time
out of their busy schedule to sign autographs for each
and every ‘Mini-Junior’.
