Torvean Golf Club from Inverness
became the first club in Scotland to have fifty of its
members open a Dunfermline Building Society Fairway Saver
account thus earning a £500 reward from the SGU’s
sponsors.
The Dunfermline Building Society Fairway Savers account
was launched last October, encouraging golf club members
to save money with a competitive interest rate and in
turn raise funds for junior golf in Scotland. A reward
initiative was also offered to all SGU affiliated golf
clubs in Scotland, giving £500 to each club who
generated 50 new accounts from their members.
Having reached the milestone of fifty members, Torvean
Golf Club’s Willie Rusk accepted a cheque for £500
from Dunfermline Building Society’s Christopher
Black and Kay Elliot, and the SGU’s clubgolf project
manager Torquil McInroy. Rusk said:
“We are delighted to become the first club in Scotland
to receive £500 from Dunfermline Building Society
for the Fairway Saver initiative. It’s a fantastic
reward for us and the money will be invested into our
club’s junior programme to enhance our coaching
and practise facilities.”
“Dunfermline Building Society’s sponsorship
of junior golf in Scotland has been great for grass roots
golf with the various activities they have been involved
with and it’s great that individual clubs can also
benefit from their partnership with the SGU.”
More than 2,100 golfers across Scotland have opened a
Fairway Saver account, totalling in excess of £4.1m
worth of savings. For every pound saved in the accounts,
a percentage will be put towards junior golf programmes
in Scotland, including clubgolf – Scotland’s
national junior golf strategy – and the SGU Academy.
Chief Executive of Dunfermline Building Society Graeme
Dalziel added:
“We are proud to extend our support of golf in
Scotland at club level and our congratulations go to
Torvean Golf Club for their efforts in promoting the
Fairway Saver account to its members. Our partnership
is very much a two-way process with clubs benefiting
from our sponsorship.”
“Dunfermline Building Society’s partnership
with the SGU continues to go from strength to strength,
following a hugely successful Junior Masters, the Junior
Club of the Year Awards and the Scottish Golf Dinner,
and we look forward to another great season in 2008.”
The Fairway Saver account offers a competitive rate of
interest (currently at 3.40%) and a new account can be
opened by investing as little as £1 up to a maximum
of £1,000,000. Junior accounts and adult accounts
are available.
