clubgolf teams up with 2009 Scottish Golf Show

The national junior golf development programme, clubgolf, is once again teaming up with the 2009 Scottish Golf Show to offer coaching to children at the SECC (20-22 March).

clubgolf will host a 300 square meter firstclubgolf activity area, showcasing the introductory game ‘firstclubgolf’.  Qualified clubgolf volunteer coaches will be on hand to give short coaching sessions to children, aged 9-14, who are visiting the show.

clubgolf’s presence at the Scottish Golf Show ties in perfectly with the roll out of firstclubgolf in schools this spring.  Primary schools across Scotland will be delivering firstclubgolf to their children this term - the 2009 target is to introduce 38,000 new children to the game.

Said clubgolf Project Manager Torquil McInroy:  "With more than three quarters of all primary schools in Scotland set to deliver firstclubgolf to their children in 2009, this is a busy and exciting time as we pursue our year's main target of introducing 38,000 more children to the game.

"At the Scottish Golf Show, kids that have never played golf will get their chance to have a go using our firstclubgolf equipment.

“And for those that already play, our team of qualified volunteer coaches will be on hand to provide short lessons.

Other important aims for clubgolf this year are to have 260 clubs and facilities delivering the programme and to have 1300 qualified volunteer coaches, together with more Pros, working within them.

“The Scottish Golf Show is also the perfect opportunity for parents, PGA Pros and anyone interested in junior golf to find out more about our programme and to hear how over 230 clubs are already benefitting,” said Mr McInroy.

"With more and more children progressing on to clubgolf coaching each year, it's vital that we continue to attract volunteers to support those programmes. That way we will continue to ensure children in Scotland have the best possible opportunity to play golf.

"We look forward to speaking to anyone who is interested in encouraging youngsters to play this wonderful game and welcome children, families and golf enthusiasts to the Junior Golf area at the show."
